Prayer of a Perfectionist

Lord, I want to be free from the tyranny of my sin.
I want to enslave myself to your Spirit.
I want freedom from the need and desire to find my identity in what others think of me.
I want true freedom which comes when I am obedient to you and find my identity in you alone.
I want to see me the way you see me.
I know I am perfect and righteous in your eyes because Christ has cleansed me with His blood and has clothed me in His righteousness.
Therefore you could not think more highly of me or love me any more.
And when others see me stumble and my sin finds me out in front of their eyes, my identity will not be threatened because it is not dependent on their opinion of me nor is it defined by my sin.
I have been forever forgiven of everything sinful I have ever done, am doing, and will ever do.
I have great hope that I am at once perfect and being perfected. That with my justification always comes my sanctification. That I am not stuck forever in the muck and mire of my sinful ways but am constantly being transformed into your likeness.
Praise you for the suffering that begets heart-changing transformation!
Praise you for the forgiveness that covers all of my sins!
Praise you for your unending, never-faltering love that does not waver with my disobedience!
And praise you for choosing me to be an undeserving recipient of your grace upon grace upon grace!

Amen
